Hi, I’m Will (well… my pen name is anyway!).
I went with a pen name for a couple of reasons. Mainly because I wanted to be taken seriously — and let’s face it, my friends and family would never have done that if they knew it was actually Karl Amos writing romance! The other reason is more special: “Will” comes from my grandfather, William Thomas James Batt. He stepped into my life when my dad decided he didn’t want the job, and he was honestly one of the most wonderful people you could ever meet. Using his name felt like a small way to honour him.
I wrote my first novel at the age of 53, after hearing a chance story from a friend. At first, I thought it would make a great film, becoming an author was never the plan! But the story took on a life of its own. Loosely based on real events (with a little creative licence, of course), it grew into a dark, spicy love story with plenty of twists and turns. That became Bittersweet Summer, which I self-published in March 2023.
Life has been busy — between long hours at the day job, a new relationship, my kids, and (best of all) my wonderful grandkids, free time isn’t exactly easy to come by. That’s why the second book took a little longer than planned. Bittersweet Revenge finally made it into the world nearly 18 months later. It may not be quite as polished as I’d hoped, but the incredible response from readers made every late night worth it — and gave me the drive to dive straight into book three: Bittersweet Reckoning.
With support from friends and family, I’m learning as I go. My aim isn’t to write highbrow literature, but to create stories you can pick up on holiday or on the sofa and just enjoy. So far, this journey has been full of highs (and the odd low), but honestly, I’m loving every second of it. Do I really think of myself as an “author”? Not yet. But I’m having a great time pretending to be one!
I hope you enjoy the adventures of my characters — many of them are inspired by people I’ve crossed paths within real life. You’ll meet unlikely heroes and heroines, a few villains, and plenty of lust, love, sin, and drama along the way.
Thanks for being here, and if you do enjoy the books, I’d love it if you left a review. Most of all, I just hope you have fun with Michelle’s story and the twists and turns of her life.
All the best,
Will
